About Victoria Wyatt
In 2007, Dr. Victoria Wyatt celebrated her fortieth year as a piano teacher and as a performing artist. She has enjoyed making her living by doing both, and feels that each facet of her career has complemented the other.
Education
Dr. Wyatt holds Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees in piano performance. She completed her DMA at Catholic University as a student of the internationally known pianist and champion of American music, William Masselos. Mr. Masselos served simultaneously on the piano faculties of Catholic University and the Juilliard School.
Teaching Experience
Dr. Wyatt has given piano lessons to students of all ages and abilities: from elementary school pianists through adults, from beginners through college
music majors. She also has provided coaching of career pianist-teachers. Besides teaching in her
private studio – Wyatt Piano Studio – she has taught
in a variety of settings. These have included teaching in universities as adjunct faculty, in the Professional Studies program of a nonprofit community music school, and at summer institutes as a faculty member, including the Eastman School of Music. As an adjudicator, she has traveled throughout the United States hearing young pianists, most recently for “Musicfest Northwest” in Spokane, Washington (May 2010). She holds national permanent professional certification through the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA).
Performance
As a performer, Victoria Wyatt has appeared throughout the Washington DC metro area as a soloist, chamber musician, accompanist, and soloist with orchestra. Her concert venues have included Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theatre, Strathmore Hall (now called “The Mansion at Strathmore”), the Corcoran Gallery, the Phillips Collection, the Smithsonian Institution, the
State Department, the Arts Club of Washington, and
the Lyceum. She has appeared live on the
PBS network.
Wyatt was twice featured as State Convention Artist for the National Federation of Music Teachers and has given lecture recitals for the MTNA state conventions. Highlights of recent concerts include a solo recital in Tingsryd, Sweden, and duo piano concerts with pianist Mariko Hiller as “Duo Spirito.”
Dr. Wyatt will play a solo recital in Puerto Rico in November 2011.
